Project Completed: Magic: The Gathering - Return to Ravnica - Simic Guildgate.

This project eventually ended up on a slow track due to system failures and other more pressing matters, but it has been completed. Due to technical hardware problems, I made the decision to export the assets and build the scene in Unity 3D instead of the original 3D software. Downside is that the eventual video quality is not as good as I would like it to be, but a big plus is the fact that the entire setup is now showing as it would in a game engine.

Pre-texture starting point

The model is done, we are now in the pre-texture phase. For this organic piece, I am making the choice of doing the unwrapping in 3D studio max. This simply saves time and is easier to do.

On importing the model, I couldn't help but get struck by the amazing lighting engine that comes with the new 3D studio max.

Final Model for the Simic Guildgate

It's done!
With the creation of the curved stairways as seen in the concept art as well as the gate guardians, the model has become a unified whole. Alterations from the concept art were made where necessary, since this is not an entire city block. Originally, the guardian statues are knights. I preferred them to be hooded.

Next step: Unwrapping and Texture creation.

Updated Simic Guildgate

For the upcoming Dragon's Maze, Wizards of the coast released new guildgate cards featuring zoomed out versions. I am attempting to follow a little into the new card and build an environment for the 3D gate model.

3D Conveyor Machine

Just a work in progress. This is a model for a big project that I am currently working on.

Update:

While I like the above texture direction, it wasn't metal enough to my taste. see the new texture. My aim is to approach a Transformers - War for Cybertron style of quality.
